San Cognition Nurse Specialist Marleta Fong interviewed on radio 2GB
Delirium is one of the most common complications of hospitalisation occurring in up to 25% of medical inpatients, 50% of post-surgical patients and 75% of intensive care patients.
Symptoms include being severely confused, agitated, hallucinating or being noisy, but for many others it can also lead to long-term function, cognition and social impairment, and result in the need for long term permanent care. Sadly it is often mis or under diagnosed.
Cognition Clinical Nurse Specialist Marleta Fong was interviwed by radio 2GB's Steve Price, explaining why and what's being done about it at the San and the Activity Blankets project trying to help patents with delirium and dementia.
