San intensivist Dr Simon Finfer discusses Sepsis on 2GB

Sepsis contributes to half of all deaths in hospitals and low public awareness and response to symptoms has resulted in a high death toll.

60% of Australians have never heard of Sepsis and only 14% could name its symptoms.

It’s estimated the treatment of Sepsis in intensive care units is more than $39,000 per patient or $4846 million annually with the ongoing treatment, loss of income and other survivors estimated at over $1.5 billion.

A recent report has shed light on the lack of understanding by both health professionals and the general public on sepsis awareness.

Discussing sepsis and the findings of the report San Intensivist Professor Simon Finfer talks to 2GB's Steve Price.
