San health professionals present at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Congress

Adventist HealthCare was represented at the prestigious Annual Scientific Congress of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, held in partnership with the American College of Surgeons and in conjunction with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, from May 7 to 11.

San Ear Nose and Throat Surgeon, Associate Professor Payal Mukherjee, chaired an important discussion about Domestic Violence. As Deputy Chair elect of the RACS NSW State Committee Professor Mukherjee has been a strong voice looking at policy and practices to help health care professionals who are subject to domestic violence.

At the same Congress, San Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Mich Atkinson, Vascular Surgeon Dr Pecky De Silva, and final year medical student Sarah McLain addressed the conference regarding gender imbalance in the medical profession.

Other SAH representatives and presenters at the event included Professor Arthur Richardson, Professor Greg Falk, Dr Christos Apostolou and Dr Greg Bennett.

In addition, San Nursing Unit Manager Dr Linda Thomson Mangnall presented on her PhD on ‘Longer term outcomes after valve surgery for Rheumatic Heart Disease in the Kingdom of Tonga, 1985-2018’, based on her long-term volunteering with Open Heart International.
