It’s all about us public cancer support services forum a success
Aimed at connecting the cancer patients, their loved ones and cancer services available in the community, a Cancer Support Services forum was held at the San.
The public forum, organised by non-profit organisation ‘It’s about us’ consisted of presentations made by former cancer patients, Psychologists, clothing, wig and beauty suppliers, cancer charities, meditation and relaxation experts, who shared their stories and how cancer patients and their families can deal with the illness.
Death of family members and her husband’s work with cancer patients inspired it’s all about us founder Jo Marx to start the forum for the community.
“Cancer can be devastating and confronting. I realised that the trauma of a cancer diagnosis creates fear and anxiety and information of the internet can be overwhelming.
Cancer patients want to know that they are not alone…and they want to hear about services and people who can make a difference to their lives when so are so compromised.
Cancer patients need to be equipped with the right and relevant tools …so they can pick what they need and feel empowered that they are helping themselves” Jo said.
“I am incredibly grateful for the life I have. I never take it for granted. This is just a little way of giving back…and maybe making cancer a little easier for other people.”
