New San Hub Opens
One of the final elements in the San Redevelopment, the opening of the new Hub has been celebrated during a Blessing and dedication.
The spacious new area links the mural walk way from the multi-deck carpark to the Cube facing the Village Green to a large thoroughfare providing easy access to the Day Procedure Centre, a new main reception desk, a San Foundation office and other retail space, and connecting the Clark, Clifford and Tulloch buildings.
San General Manager Brett Goods acknowledged the official definition of a 'Hub' was the central part of a wheel into which spokes were inserted, and a location where there is most activity.
He applauded the work of the large team who oversaw the relatively fast process saying the result changes how patients and the San community navigate to key areas of the site.
San CEO Phil Currie, San Foundation Chairman Dr Leon Clark and San Foundation Managing Director Barbara Ward also recognised the work of the Integrated Cancer Centre Fundraising Committee, and the significant donation made by a generous supporter of the hospital - a patient of Associate Professor Gavin Marx who was inspired by his hospital care to help finance the completion of the Hub and the Tulloch building façade.
The San Spiritual Care Services Team led a prayer of blessing anointing the hands of managers with oil to share with their teams.
Dr Clark noted the previous main foyer in the Clifford Tower had served the hospital well for over 52 years since its opening in 1974, expressing the hope that the new Hub would play a similar role for the next half century.
"…to Phil, Brett and the team who lead this great institution and of course their wonderful staff who deliver the standard of care and commitment which inspires people to give and thereby enable this achievement…you are in our prayers."
