Managing Director San Foundation, Barbara Ward has been named ‘Ku-ring-gai Local Woman of the Year’ for 2017.
The award has been conferred in recognition of Mrs Ward’s outstanding contribution and service to the community and health sector.
The Hon Pru Goward MP presented the award to Barbara Ward in a celebratory function at Sydney Adventist Hospital (the San) attended by more than 100 guests.
Speaking at the occasion, the NSW Minister for Women congratulated Barbara Ward for her dedicated work for the Ku-ring-gai community.
“The [local woman of the year] award recognises the achievements of women, the leadership of women, to inspire other women, particularly younger women, to see that it can be done and if it can be done by someone, it can be done by them. It reminds us of the contribution of women that we take for granted, acknowledging the difference women can make in their community.
Fundraising is not an easy task. There are extraordinary challenges in it. It is a very crowded market place. We have to recognise people who do that, like Barbara Ward, who see the challenges, know there are challenges and they don’t back away.
Her work is not only helping the community of Ku-ring-gai but also North Shore, and North West of Sydney.”
AHCL CEO Phil Currie thanked Barbara for her tireless work and contribution to the San and the community.
“Mrs Barbara Ward is in her 6th year working tirelessly to raise funds to support the San, and Adventist HealthCare (AHCL), to achieve its outcomes - to provide our community with great Healthcare services. Last year the San Foundation raised over $10m, completing the fundraising towards the San Integrated Cancer Centre.”
Earlier Mr Currie spoke about the participation of women at AHCL.
“The San is an organisation with a great reputation and, with 80% of our workforce being women, they can take significant credit for our excellent reputation. We train nurses at the San – 80% of our graduates since 1903 have been women. 50% of our Executive team here are women.”
Speaking at the occasion, NSW Parliament Member for Ku-ring-gai, Alister Henskens SC MP said that Barbara Ward’s great achievement has been to raise funds especially for San Integrated Cancer Centre.
“This is the legacy that Barbara will leave, for our community, for many many years into the future.”
Managing Director San Foundation Barbara Ward said the award does not just belong to her but to all the colleagues at the San who have devoted their lives to patient care.
“It is a privilege to work at the San. I cannot begin to describe the immense pleasure I get from the smallest things that make an impact to an individual’s life. It is a deep connection of human kind, I truly believe it is an honour to serve.”
